Thursday 17th. July 2008
Sorry all, this is very late notice of my current exhibition on account of being totally obsessed with the new bigbox of pastels.
Anyway `Art from East & West ` is exhibiting in the Aviary Gallery. Birmingham Botanical Gardens until July 20th. It started well with two paintings being sold on the first day.
Last Easter we went off to Hong Kong and Guilin . Rob was on and off the Star Ferry as if he`d lived there all his life. Guilin was as beautiful as ever and i had chance to meet up with a lovely Buddhist artist who taught me more about painting bamboo.
The two bamboo paintings of mine which were worth framing sold at their first hanging. Bamboo is really one of the hardest subjects to paint really well- I hope I can produce another good one.
Recently bought the poems of Jia Dao and hope to use them for my next set of paintings - thinking of working in themes e.g. poets/seasons/Chinese gods/Beijing opera.
At present STILL working on an oil portrait of a friend but sidetracked by recent holidays in Malta and Jersey. Sketchbooks are busting and have had to pastel the lavender fields in Jersey.
Getting desperate to oil Mdina.
This year I have given two presentations on the art of chinese brush painting and really enjoyed
showing all my seals ,brushes e.t.c. - more fun than my usual lecture `limitations of the transmission electron microscope in diagnostic pathology` .
Next exhibition next March- will get it on blog when dates finalised.
